So I have a question, I took out my gearbox, and hooked it up to a battery and pulled the trigger, and it seems that I get no movement from any gears or such, so I'm thinking (Geoff was thinking) that my motor was not properly in far enough or is too far out from the first gear... my problem is though that it seems like everyone else is able to adjust that with a screw on the bottom of the handle. My mp44 doesnt have this feature, and when I took out the gearbox the motor is enclosed in a housing and I'm not sure how I would adjust the motor in the gearbox. See the bottom of this image, where the motor is in a cage that holds it in... and at the bottom of the cage is this blue bit, but nothing that looks like a motor height adjustment... is that right?

are you just getting a high pitch sound from the motor spining? for the most part if you have a full enclosure on the motor they are going to be at the right height as soon as they are on. no need for a adjustment. so you may want to open the gear box and be sure that you didnt shred any gears. even if youre missing just one tooth it may be enough to mess up the whole thing

Somehow that's where the adjustment is. There's be a screw or something that'd push it up. Geoff and his "motor isn't sitting right" my suggestion to that is to remove the motor. And see if it'll spin with a battery attached. (keep cables connected and pull trigger with motor removed.). If it spins, then either it isn't sitting right, or there's something jammed in there. Can you confirm that all the bearings are sitting proper and you can see the gear spokes in the bearings?

I am getting a blue spark from the bottom of the motor when I pull the trigger, Ill detach the motor and see what going on when I get home.

Ok so it looks like the motor is working fine... I plugged it in after removing it and I get movement and a smooth sound now... so that means my gears have locked up...
So I opened up the gearbox and found the bearing on all of the gears look like they are sitting bit cockeyed... also, the gear closest that connects to the motor has scraped away at the bearing and keyholed it... also if that weren't enough, my first gear has been ground down, and there are no teeth in one section...
So it looks like I have to buy a new set of gears and bearings... do I have to buy a new case for the whole setup as well? Or can the metal bearings be knocked out and replaced?
Any ideas for a v2 gear set that wouldn't require shimming?

Is this stuff covered under warranty? This sounds like a nightmare.

i was afraid it would be that bad. sadly airsoft guns usually only come with about a 15 day warranty. and opening the gearbox voids it. as for the repairs: just pop the bearings out and get new ones (also called bushings, bearings implies they have ball bearings bushings dont have balls) you will have to check and see what size your gun has. they come in 6mm-9mm and you HAVE to have the right size or they will not work (learned that lesson but not my fault.... bad info on a forum) as for gears dont go cheap if you want them to last. expect around $50 for a decent set and some of the really nice sets $100. shimming is not a hard process. and a shim set will only run you about $4-5. but if you really dont want to shim drop one of these bad boys in.... www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_49&products_id=5337

So how do you measure for the bushings? Is that number the outside diameter of the bushing? As far as I can tell every site I go to says that this gearbox has 8mm bushings... does that mean that I need an 8mm gearbox? or is there a standard gearbox that fits in a standard internal hole to an 8mm bushing?

your gearbox has holes cut in it for 8mm bushings then. every gearbox has a specific size. youll be able to tell right away if you have the wrong size. you should just barely be able fit the bushings in. it may take a little bit of forcing. just in case your 8mm bushings dont fit my m4 needs some new ones soon ;D

I am unsure though what gear set to get, I would think my spring is pretty high powered considering my fps levels are over 400... Can I get a gear set that says its for 7mm and then buy 8mm bushings? Like this one? www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2799

those gears have the bushings build in (the nubs over the center of each gear) i would advise against those gears. they are very nice for quality and convenience but should anything go wrong (crack bushing, one stripped gear) you need a whole new set since its all one piece. you may want to consider a torque up set to put less strain on the gears/motor.

systema is basically the best in the biz. you cant go wrong with them. but youll need to look out for helical or non helical. helical gears require a half tooth piston because the gears are on an angle. the angle helps reduce strain on the gears by allowing more contact. so if you dont feel like picking up a new piston as well get non helical

So I just got an email from airsoft GI that says they have accepted me for warranty repair work, even though I am way past the warranty mark... I might try to make everything look legit and send it back and see what they give me.. in the meantime, I've purchased a backup.
